 Excerpt:

Quickly, exhaustion took over her body. At some point she knew she’d heard the kids in the hallway with Scott on their way to bed, but she slept through the night.

She’d nearly forgotten he was there until the next morning when she walked downstairs to make her coffee. The deep breathing from the living room startled her a moment. Then she saw him splayed out under a Mickey Mouse blanket. Her breath hitched in her throat at the sight of his bare chest.

Steadying herself with a cleansing breath she walked toward the kitchen.

She was more than grateful that she’d brushed her teeth before coming down, because when Scott walked into the kitchen and pressed himself up behind her she’d let out a sigh. His hard body was close against her and his lips were on her neck.

“Are you feeling better?”

“Uh-huh,” was all she could manage.

“I can call in sick and take care of you.” His voice had dipped sensually and she swallowed hard.

“I have to work.”

He let out a groan and then gave her a peck on the cheek. “Maybe tonight and the rest of the weekend.”

He moved away from her and headed down the hall to the bathroom and Victoria let out the breath she’d been holding. Right. It was Friday. He could come back and spend all weekend.

Scott would be spending the night.

Dear Lord, was she ready for this. She looked down at her shaky hand. Yes. She was ready.

Let's Learn a Little about Bernadette Marie!

What is your writing environment?
Anywhere, anytime, so the environment changes. I have five sons and that usually means I’m enveloped in chaos wherever I write. But luckily I can tune them out. If I’m lucky, my environment is in my very quiet office where I can just dissolve into my stories.

Who is your perfect hero and why?
Among my own heroes I’ve written I’d say that would be John Forrester. He’s the eldest of my heroes and that alone makes him one of my faves. He’s handy with his hands (and I mean that in all senses of the word.) He’s a protector, but allows his woman to be strong. Add to that he’s very hunky with his salt and pepper speckled hair and well-toned body.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?
I was lucky enough to be the first editor for Internationally Bestselling author Lisa J. Hobman. Her work is unique and can pull your heart right out of your chest (in a loving and wonderful way.) Her stories are set in Scotland and they paint a very vivid, modern picture. She’s genius!

What type of book have you always wanted to write?
I write contemporary romance and that’s right where I’ve always wanted to be.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
This novel has been brewing for years since Christian is a Keller and has graced most all of the books. Finally it was his turn for a story. Christian was fun to write because I’ve taken him from a shy boy, to a cocky ball player, to a very depressed man who is broken and has lost the love of his life. As for the idea for the book I followed through with his ball playing, or the end of his ball playing, and built the story around how he coped and took back his life.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
I think I like the conflict scenes the most. So my favorite scene would be when Victoria’s ex-boyfriend confronts Christian. I love to write testosterone driven scenes.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?
Right now I’m working on The Three Mrs. Monroes. This trilogy will release in succession during June, July, and August 2014.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I like walking. Usually I’m taking kids to hockey and that means I’m visiting with MY hockey family, the moms and dads who have bonded over the years.

What would you consider a perfect date?
I had one once. We were broke and had enough money for a hamburger and a shake to share. And we sat at the restaurant, same side of the booth, and watched the snow fall in big brilliant flakes.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?
Many readers know that I’m a Second Degree Black Belt, what they might not know is that I have two first place and two third place trophies for forms and a third place trophy for sparring. I also have a first and third place trophy from my Nail Specialist days when I competed in artificial nail enhancements!

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends.  Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter.  At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published.  That year she wrote 12 books.  In 2009  she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born.  In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events.  She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.  An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and she always promises Happily Ever After.

  1. Oh what a great interview, thanks Bernadette for sharing so much. I always feel closer to the characters when I hear the author talk about them. I plan on putting Home run at the top of my tbr list. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Sharon! I hope you enjoy the story. If you're new to the series may I suggest starting at the front with THE EXECUTIVE'S DECISION. It is always a free eBook. However, it is stand alone enough that Home Run would be fine without the rest :)

  3. I was interested in your 'older hero', John Forrester. That set me to thinking...in most of today's romances, the heroine is twenty-something and the hero is usually in his 30's. Have you ever, or do you plan, to write a book where the H/H are in their 40's or even 50's?

    1. Oh yes, Karen. As I am 41 I am very interested in growing with my characters. There are love stories everywhere, which I think Madeline and Carlos are prime examples of that--remarrying after years apart. But I do see my characters getting older with me :)
