Nia Martins believes a fresh start will help her leave her traumatic past behind. Moving to a different country, she seeks to shake off her demons by doing the one thing that sets her free from her destructive thoughts – teaching dance. But change doesn't come easy, and all Nia really wants is to take the next breath without the perpetual suffocation that follows.

Reeves Mitchell has looked death in the eyes so many times it’s become habitual. That is, until his best friend's life was on the line. When the one thing he feared the most turns into reality, all he can do is pick up the pieces of his loss. As Reeves tries to live with the constant thought of “what if” gnawing at the back of his mind, he persistently and steadily builds a thick wall around himself.

Their solitary lives are all they have—until fate brings them together. Nia and Reeves’ new friendship helps make life, shadowed by the ghosts of their past, more bearable. But as their relationship deepens and new, suppressed feelings emerge between them, are they willing to retrace their steps back to where wounded hearts can be
broken once more?

A little bit about the author:

  1. In five words, please describe your ‘Romance Writing Style’.
Colorful and descriptive, emotional, sarcastic at times, and realistic.

  1. What do you do in your down time?
Two of my most preferred mellowing out activities are bubble-baths and driving alone in my car with loud music on in the background. What's more, these two activities have also proven to be my most inspirational times.

  1. Favorite book from childhood.
Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. Truth be told, it’s also one of my favorite books as an adult. This book never gets old. It’s not really a book, it’s more of a fun send-off manual for starting out in the world.

  1. What’s on your desk? Describe what you see when you look around.
What desk? I see clutter, a whole lot of clutter. Documents, two monitors, sticky notes, a few half-drunk cans of cherry coke zero, and scented candles. And my favorite, a sign with the following quote: “When I’m good, I’m very good. When I’m bad, I’m better.”

  1. What's the weirdest thing you've Googled?
Oh God, that would have to be some, ahem, research for my current WIP, Leaving Me Behind. “Weirdest sex toys” – let’s just say I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.

  1. What is your favorite line from any of your books?
That would be a quote from Layers, my debut novel. “You just need to think hard about what and how much is really enough. Once you find that out, it’s what makes you live in sheer bliss. Till then, there are constant doubts.”

  1. Do you believe in love at first sight?
No, I don’t. I believe in lust at first sight. Love, as I see it, comes with developing emotions for someone. Love takes control of your body and mind while passion and lust take control of your desires, in an immediate, primal manner. Racy heartbeats, sparks, and desire are the instigators of physical/sexual attraction, not love.

  1. How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
I find the names of my characters to be extremely important. I believe names have a great weight in the overall creation of a character. Usually, I choose a couple of names and imagine them in some scenes to test how they sound in my head. For example, I believe Nia is a perfect name for Retrace’s protagonist. It’s a name that describes a compassionate, creative, and kind person, just like the character I created.

  1. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Getting inside my character’s minds and feeling their pain as they dealt with the trauma they were subjected to. It wasn’t easy when I found myself wiping away tears while writing and reading parts of the story, but at the same time this told me I’d reached the level of emotion I was looking to convey.   10. Which actor/actress would you like to see play the lead character from your most recent book? For Nia’s part, definitely Minka Kelly. She looks exactly like I see Nia in my mind’s eye. Her delicacy and pure beauty are Nia. And I think she’d do a great job as a dancer. As for Reeves part, that’s a tough one. It would have to be a combination between an actor and a model. Channing Tatum and Mateus Verdelho perhaps?

  2. I really enjoyed the excerpt but I really, really enjoyed learning about the author. I am always fascinated to learn what an author does when they're not writing and to know that they're just like their fans, normal but with a brilliant and vivid imagination. Thank you for the giveaway and good luck to everyone. I know this is a fantastic giveaway and I would love to win. That would get my daughter CHRISTMAS, and she deserves something special for once. She's had a tough summer and couldn't even go to school when it started from surgeries on her feet. Yes, this would be awesome to win. I could even buy the book with the card. I love Amazon and my daughter loves reading so my fingers are crossed.
