Outlaw Muse
by Lauren Linwood

 Blurb:

Separated from her twin during the Orphan Train selections, schoolmarm Serena Sullivan searched for her brother Bill for over fifteen years.  Just as she gets a lead on his whereabouts, she is railroaded by a crooked sheriff and set to hang for the murder of the sheriff's best friend.

English playwright Damon Rutledge has come to the American West on business for his brother when he witnesses a woman about to be executed.  On impulse he rescues the beautiful stranger and goes on the run with her.  Along the way Daman finds the muse he's been missing and loses his heart to the raven haired beauty with the haunting amber eyes.

As they try to outrun the long arm of the law, Daman seeks to prove Serena's innocence before it's too late.

Excerpt:

Serena wondered if this was how Anne Boleyn felt as she was led to her execution.  She thought the Queen had ridden to Tower Hill standing in a cart instead of walking as she now did.  In a last romantic gesture for a wife he once loved, King Henry imported a French swordsman to lop off his innocent wife's head in one swift blow instead of a common executioner hacking over and over again until the deed was done.

Unfortunately, no romantic hero would be riding to her rescue.  Nobody would make the noose more comfortable as it slipped around her neck.  Serena had heard if done right, her neck should snap immediately.  With her run of bad luck, she'd swing for agonizing minutes until she slowly suffocated.

She trudged along the dusty main street of Crombar Creek, no breeze stirring the dirt of the road.  She looked up at the cloudless sky, the last one she would ever see.  The July sun baked into her pores, causing a trail of sweat to gather at the nape of her neck and slowly trickle down her back.

  4. I've always been interested in Anne Boleyn, Valerie. I thought how lonely she must have felt with Henry VIII having abandoned her. I wanted Serena to feel that low, too - all the better for Daman to sweep in and rescue her!
