Movie review - 2 Guns

2 Guns(2013)
R - Action/Comedy/Crime

Starring: Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg and Paula Patton

 Movie Review -

Unexpected, "2 Guns" was not just your average shoot-em-up. It wasn't the good guys against the bad guys. What was it, you ask? It was funny.  You can bet - I was surprised! I was given no clue this was a comedy from the trailers and it's about time. I hate it when you see most of an entire film in a trailer but I love trailers. Go figure. Back to the review.

Starring Denzel Washington as an undercover DEA agent, Bobby Trench and Mark Wahlberg as an undercover Naval Intelligence Officer, Michael Stigman, "2 Guns" has neither agent aware that the other is actually 'the good' guy. Each is working the other to get close to a top drug lord so they can 'take him down.'  The two are primarily, of course, first after drug money. It is their strategy that taking the money will cripple the drug lord's trading ability. Earl, played by the always awesome, Bill Paxton, is the bad guy to whom the drug lord answers. He is, of course, CIA. You might wonder, is there any real bad guys in this film? I guess that would be the drug lord, Papi, played by a very convincing Edward James Olmos.  The two infiltrators being unaware that the other really is an undercover agent bodes badly for their supposedly superior ability to be in the know. It does, however, show how amazing they are at keeping their true identities secret.

My score for this movie is 7 out of 10.  The Movie Appreciation Club score is 7.85 out of 10.
