Author Interview & Giveaway - How to Train Your Highlander (Broadswords and Ballrooms #3) by Christy English

Talking with author Christy English!

 ~*~*~*~*~

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

HIGHLANDER is the third in a series, so I always knew that Mary Elizabeth was going to fall in love with a duke, but I did not know what Harry was like until I started this novel. I had no idea that he loved astronomy, sailing, hunting and horse breeding. I had no idea he was lonely, just as Mary Elizabeth was, surrounded by splendor as she was surrounded by family. They found each other, and let their loneliness go.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

My favorite scene is when Harry and Mary Elizabeth escape the ball being thrown in his honor. She wants to escape the English and he wants to escape marriageable young ladies and their duke-mad mamas. They end up talking on the roof, far from anyone’s reach, drinking whisky and looking at the stars. Harry can’t hold his liquor, and when he tries to kiss her they both start to slide off. Mary Elizabeth saves them with some quick thinking and the judicious use of knives and part of her gown, and as Harry watches, he falls even more in love with her.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?

My current love is affectionately titled Pirates and Petticoats, in which hot Highlanders meet pirates on the high seas. In the first novel, the pirate is a woman. I’m not sure when this will come to light, because I haven’t written much yet. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. Of course, with romantic comedy, you know that love triumphs after a few laughs.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love to read, watch movies, walk outside when it’s warm enough. I love to cuddle with my sweetie and talk about a lot of nothing. I love going to dinner and lunch with my friends, and talking books with my book clubs. I like bowling, though I’m really bad at it. I love yoga, though I am only now beginning my practice again after years of not doing it at all. But that is the good thing about a practice: you can begin again wherever you are, and go from there.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?

I love to roller skate. Some folks might know it, but they may not.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?

Go back to Paris with the man I love, see the ruins of Pompeii, and spend a week on St. Thomas, drinking in sun and rum.

Do you have a genre that you can see yourself writing in the future?

I have done a little dabbling in paranormal romance, and I enjoy it, but romantic comedy has my heart. I really love my Highlanders.
