Three
young girls go to a psychic after pooling their allowance money together. It’s
been thirteen years and none of the prediction have come true until today. They
face turbulent times in their lives that will make them stronger and bring them
back together. The power of true, unceasing friendship and love conquers all.
And the help of a psychic along the way doesn’t hurt.
The predictions a psychic made thirteen years ago bring three young women at the height of the most critical moments in their lives back together. Through their friendship, these young women learn about love, life, and cherishing what matters most.

EXCERPT:
Diane and a
woman are sitting across from each other at a round table with a deep burgundy
cloth on it. Diane, who is in her early fifties, and the woman, in her early
twenties, are engrossed in a serious conversation with intense eye contact.
Diane, who has short, gray hair, is trying to reach an understanding with the
dark-haired woman.
I see the path
people take during their lives as if they were movies on a screen. It could be
the words spoken by one, a touch given, or a simple stare that gives me insight
into a person's life. I try to be an adviser to my clients, but I can only tell
them what I see, not what they want to hear. I have been in the same location,
in the same small town, for over 20 years. I moved up North after my mother
passed away. In her honor, the honor of the lineage I share, I continue our
work. I come from a long line of healers. There was a time when our folks could
not get to a hospital—we had to learn to heal ourselves based on traditions
passed on from the motherland. My people used remedies from the earth, things
like black tourmaline crystals, raw honey, herbal roots like John the Conqueror
root, and plants like Rose of Jericho to heal. Sometimes we are healing life
situations, sometimes we are healing health. We learned old wives’ tales and
used our secondary vision to lead us to solutions for others. Along the way, I
was taught something many grapple with. You see, people can change their
short-run destinies, but they can never change their fate.
The woman
leaves. Diane heads toward the curtain that covers the doorway of the back
room. She pulls the curtain to the side and walks through the doorway. On the
other side of the curtain, there is a small kitchen area and a table. On top of
the stove sits a teapot. Diane, who is wearing a red apron, reaches in the
cabinet and takes out a teacup and a saucer. She pours tea in her cup and has a
seat at the table.
What has been
disturbing me since I woke up this morning is a dream that I had last night. My
dreams are like a compass. They tell me the direction things are going.
Diane moves her
fingertip around the teacup rim very slowly and watches the tea steam.
Recalled to me
was a reading I did for three young girls almost twelve years ago.
Twelve-year-olds
Rachel and Vanessa are standing with eleven-year-old Cassandra at the door of
the shop. Diane walks from behind the curtain of the back room.
“Hi, how may I
help you young girls?” Diane asks.
“We want a reading,”
Vanessa says. She has long, wavy brown hair.
“Yeah, the sign
outside says a reading is ten dollars,” Cassandra says. She has long, dark
curly black hair in ponytails.
“Calm down,
Rachel. Just act cool,” Vanessa says.
Rachel, who has
short blonde hair, puts ten dollars on the table. The money is in singles,
quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.
“Well, I don’t
usually do groups,” Diane says.
“Oh,” Rachel
exclaims.
The young girls
all look at each other.
“We can leave,”
Rachel says.
“What?” Vanessa
says. “Give us a moment,” she tells Diane.
The girls
huddle together.
“Look, guys,”
Cassandra says. “I need to find out my designer destiny. Will I grow up in the
life of riches, wearing Gucci everything?”
Vanessa
replies. “Even more important than your Gucci dreams is my career. At age
twelve, I don't have a career yet. This is serious. My parents are all over me.
All my cousins already know what they want to be when they grow up! Rachel,
don't mess this up. This family holiday, I'm coming prepared with an answer for
the career question.”
Vanessa
approaches Diane as the group’s spokesperson. “So, can we still get a reading?”
