EXCERPT:
Georgie Randall happily made her way through the aisles of
her local grocery store. It was Valentine’s Day in Tampa, Florida, and the
weather was picture perfect. One of the many benefits of living in the Sunshine
State was having a tan year round. Georgie’s bronze-colored skin brought out
the green flecks in her light brown eyes, and her honey-golden hair barely
brushed her sun-kissed shoulders. She piled her grocery cart with the finest
cut of steak and had the complete makings for a romantic candlelight dinner.
When she meandered through the florist section, she
impulsively grabbed a bunch of carnations to dress the table. The planned
Valentine’s Day meal was an extravagance she couldn’t afford, but she was
willing to stretch her budget where necessary. As she made her way through the
cashier line, she thought of Adam Lockwood, and her stomach twisted in gleeful
knots. Although they hadn’t been together for very long, he had very serious
intentions.
Adam was a great guy and, according to her mother,
respectable husband material. At twenty-seven, he was a top-tier lawyer on the
verge of being offered a very lucrative contract. One of Tampa’s most
prestigious law firms, Bratman, Linquist, and Sullivan, was vying for his
attention, along with a few others.
The night was shaping up to be the perfect Valentine’s
evening. Georgie helped bag her groceries into reusable canvas totes as she
made small talk with the cashier. Happy and always polite, she strolled out of
the market. When her cell phone buzzed, she glanced at the message, and her
heart sank. It was from Adam. He was meeting with an associate lawyer from
Bratman and wanted her to meet him for cocktails at seven. There goes dinner.
She glanced at her wristwatch and crinkled up her nose, sighing aloud. Well, if
it was important to Adam, it would be important to her.
