GENRE: Military and MC Romance

BLURB:

For more than two years they’ve been ghosts. Nothing but names on empty tombstones. Men and women forced to fade into the background after being pulled from the rubble. Dead Marines saved from a fate worse than death, but ordered to stand down while their lives disappeared all around them.

Some knew it could happen if a mission exploded. Double crossed by more than just Red Wolf. But now is their time to be reborn from the flames of a Phoenix. No longer imprisoned in the shadows. A half-life between them and their future. To make things right coming back to life is their only option.

EXCERPT:

Thallium’s Submission Excerpt By Anna Alexander

A photo appeared on the screen and Thallium squinted at the image of the woman who took down an empire and felt the blood in his veins quicken.

Sure, a woman dressed in leather chaps was a surefire way to nab his attention, and if she had been holding a riding crop in her hand, forget about it. But it was more than her apparel that made his heart pound. She was beautiful, in a 1950s pin-up girl kind of way. Black eyeliner rimmed her dark eyes, and her pouty lips were slicked with the deepest shade of red lipstick. The huge belt around her waist highlighted her hourglass figure and her black halter top made her cleavage look a mile deep. Judging by the near-perfect streak of gray that framed her heart-shaped face, he’d guess her dark hair color came from a bottle, but that didn’t matter to him none.

No, what really had him going was her expression. More specifically, what he saw in her expression. There wasn’t a single word that could be used to describe what he saw in the depths of her brown eyes or the line of her lips, but he identified with what must have been going on in her mind when the photographer captured the picture.

It was a look he’d seen many times in the service. That grit of determination to get the job done, even when you knew you were walking into a shit storm with little hope of making it out the other side. It was the look of the resolve you felt when you were doing the right thing, even at the cost of your own life. She had been living on borrowed time and knew it. The signs were there on her face, in the jut of her hip and the tilt of her chin, but her stance said she didn’t give a shit and nothing would keep her from succeeding.

That show of strength in a female got to Thallium like nothing else in the world. The woman in the picture was a goddess, and in another time, another place, Thallium would have gladly fallen to his knees and worshipped her.

Interview with Heather Long for Elite Ghosts

What is your writing environment?

I actually write in my garage. I like the isolation of being away form the distractions in the house. I also have a really nice office that I can use when weather is unpleasant and where I do a lot of my “business” work. But writing? Writing in is in the barren garage where I am free to fill it with all my ideas.

Who is your perfect hero/heroine and why?

That’s a tough question. Perfect heroes and heroines have flaws. They have weaknesses and insecurities that they must confront. It may sound cheesy, but the perfect hero and heroine compliments and empowers their “mate” or significant other. The more troubled a character is, the more admirable their dedication to doing the “right” thing can be.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?

I am a huge Nalini Singh fan, I actively set aside time to read her books. I love Patricia Briggs as well. Cara Carnes is definitely an author who holds my interest. Her upcoming Salvation has to be one of my favorite books ever. I love Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries and Melissa Schroeder’s Santinis, Semper Fi Marines and of course her most recent release Seductive Reasoning. Rebecca Royce’s Fallen Alpha series is loads of fun and Virginia Nelson’s The Penthouse Prince is a wonderful book, but I also love her Wicked Odd and Wolf on a Leash…I guess a lot of authors have my interest.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?

A spy thriller. I love Jason Bourne and James Bond—I’d love to write one of those.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?

Right now, we have the European Tour I plan to take Mini on in 2017 when she is 16. We will be traveling from Italy through Europe to Norway then down Great Britain.

I’d love to see one of my series turned into a television series or movie…I think that would be loads of fun.

And a Black Widow movie, dammit. She deserves a standalone film. I even have a great script idea that I’d be happy to share with mMarvel.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

My contribution to Elite Ghosts is Target: Tungsten. The idea came as a direct follow-up to not only Elite Metal, but as a continuation of the tale begun in Pure Copper (Elite Metal).  Brad is a guy who lost his girl because he was believed dead and forced to stay that way for three agonizing years. Worse, he had to watch the woman he loved fall in love with someone else.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

There’s a scene in the opening of Target: Tungsten where Gabriel Danvers, Sachi “Copper” James’ lover has a sniper rifle pointed at Brad’s head while Brad and Sachi are talking. When Brad is convinced that Sachi isn’t over him, he accepts that Gabriel has a claim on her, too. Yet, at the same time, he is not deterred from his pursuit and his reply to Gabriel is “Game on.”  It remains a favorite.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?

My next release is Desert Wolf which comes out November 24. The book I am writing right now is A Man Called Wyatt, the eighth and final book in the Fevered Hearts saga. It’s the conclusion to an epic paranormal western romance saga set in the 1850s that readers call the X-Men meets the Young Guns.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I am a total television junkie, I’m also an avid reader, with five crazy dogs and I have a very active drama theater teenager. So what free time I have is spent on them or quilting when I get the time.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?

I don’t think any author thinks they are interesting, but one fact readers may not know is that I adore cooking. It’s almost meditative to me when I discover a new recipe. Everything from the chopping and carving and prepping to the cooking soothes me.
