The Dark Ones
by Rachel Van Dyken
Release Date: Sept 20, 2015
To touch a Dark One is death.
To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I've been marked by both.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin with.
It was theirs.
It's always been theirs.
I have to say that this book surprised me. It started out very vague and odd but once the story got going, it captivated me so much, I finished this book in one sitting. Genesis is a human who is summoned before the Dark One, Cassius. She was taught to be both humble and ready to serve the immortals. Of course, she finds out that she was not told the truth.
Genesis is a woman who was raised to believe that she is nothing. Not pretty, not special, nothing. Suddenly she finds her number has been called and immortals are fighting over her. Ethan, a vampire elder, is a man with a dark past and the last thing he wants is to be responsible for protecting Genesis from Cassius. Cassius, a half human and half angel immortal, is neither good nor evil and he is pursuing Genesis. Add in a vegetarian werewolf and a couple of sirens, this paranormal romance will have readers both laughing and reaching for a cold drink.
This well written and amazing story has so many twists and turns that I was unwilling to put it down until the end. I am so looking forward to the next story as the author left me needing to know what happens to all the wonderful secondary characters. 4.5 stars ~Booklover Sue
