BLURB:

Two coworkers are brought together when an embarrassing bet is brought to light at the annual office party. Mia worries her trust in Jake, the company playboy, may place her heart and reputation at risk.

EXCERPT:

“And off they go,” Mia mumbled as she watched her traitorous friends weave their way across the room, leaving her alone with Jake. She turned and looked up into his eyes. Even though the lights were too low to see the exact shade, she knew they were the color of well-worn denim. “I hope you’re aware of what you unleashed on your pals.”

She considered the man standing before her. He was tall with broad, strong-looking shoulders. She knew he played ball with some of the guys in the office because she’d often heard them talking about the games over coffee in the break room. The way his shirts fit indicated he worked out. Add that to his classic blond hair and blue eyes and he was definitely drool-worthy, as Mandy would say.

The biggest question in Mia’s mind was whether or not he would ever see her as anything but an analyst with more opinions than boobs. Thankfully she had the data to back those opinions up.

“They may thank me in the morning,” Jake said with a twinkle in his eye.

“They might,” she conceded.

He stepped closer to Mia. Close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body radiating to her already flushed skin.

“Besides,” he lowered his voice and held Mia’s gaze, “it served its purpose.”

“What purpose is that?”

“To get you to myself.”

Review:

What amounts to a fun romance, Risky Business tells the tale of a young woman, Mia, who finally gets the chance to get-it-on with her long-time crush, Jake.  Mia and her best friends, Robin and Mandy, attend their office's annual party.  Held in a ballroom, it's the perfect time and place for fun, adventure, misbehavior and, of course, romance.  As Jake and Mia come out of their shells and take up with one another, members of the sales and accounting departments cause havoc with their misdirected antics.  Jake discovers that he has already become territorial with Mia, a change that he was not expecting.

Watching these two through the words of author, Dena Garson, is fun and interesting.  Readers will enjoy this well written tale.  Because of the fun and ensuing story, I give this enjoyable book a 3.5 stars. ~JoEllen

Talking with Dena Garson!

What is your writing environment?
Sadly, it’s anywhere I can grab a spare moment to write. My preference is to curl up on my bed or couch with my laptop. Unfortunately, I often have to make do with the front seat of my car while waiting for one of my boys to practice whatever sport they’re playing. Other times it’s my desk at work while I eat lunch.

Who is your perfect hero/heroine and why?
The perfect hero would be a strong character, with goals and direction of his own, but when he meets the heroine falls so deeply in love with her that he’s willing to make changes in his life to include her. Not necessarily giving up his goals or his dreams, but allowing her to be a part of them. He should be willing to show the heroine his soft underbelly even if there is no one else on the planet he could do that with.
I like to see couples who are more than capable of making it on their own, but when they come together could take on the world.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?
I just had a book come out as part of the Black Hills Wolves series. It’s a multi-author series and several of them are new to me so I made sure I picked up their books. The first book is from Rebecca Royce – I love her books – but I plan to get more of M. Limoges and Virginia Nelson’s books.
Lauren Smith came out with a hot new contemporary series that starts with The Gilded Cuff. I can’t wait to get a copy of the next book, Gilded Cage. And Rhenna Morgan’s Eden series (Unexpected Eden) is pretty awesome too!

What type of book have you always wanted to write?
I have a historical romance waiting in the wings that I’ve wanted to write for almost a decade. It’s the book of my heart actually. One day I will finish it.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?
I have a lot of travel locations on my bucket list. But if I had to prioritize the list, visiting the UK would be at the top. I also want to go to a Superbowl and ride in a Blackhawk helicopter.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
Risky Business was inspired by things I’d heard from friends at work. After working in a corporation for more than ten years there were lots of stories to draw from.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
I think it’s the part where Jake tells Mia about the bet and opens up to her about his attraction.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?
I’m finishing up a contemporary romance. It’s a story of young love that was left behind and second chances. I had hoped to have edits finished on it a month ago but my last two releases took priority. Depending on how my pitch appointment at the RT Convention goes, it may be out later this year (I’m still on the fence about whether or not to self-pub it).

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I read and do lots of crafts. Making beaded jewelry is probably my favorite though. I love playing with the different colors, textures and materials of beads.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?
I collect rubber ducks. My collection has outgrown my bathtub though. Even the windowsill above the tub is full.

  1. Characters often find themselves in situations they aren't sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

  3. Oooo - that's a tough one, Mai. I've worked in a corporate environment for about 20 years. There have been a few incidents there. I think the worst was one where a co-worker and I had gone up to the executive floor to help setup for one of the big-wig meetings. As the time came for the meeting to start the CEO turned to me and said, "Can you please close the door?" I was in a panic about whether to close it with me on the inside or the outside. My coworker was insistent on staying so I wimped out and sat next to her. At the first break though I bolted. It was sensitive subject meeting and I was really uncomfortable being in there. To this day I regret not leaving at the first!
