They're the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel
When fireman Fred Breen rescues a bachelorette party after a construction crane collapses onto their limo, the media labels him the "Bachelor Hero." But all Fred can think about is the petite brunette with the sexy mane of dark curls who bolted away from him faster than a wildfire after he carried her to safety. And when he discovers she's none other than Rachel Kessler, the daughter of a tech billionaire, the girl whose kidnapping riveted the nation, he intends to learn every intimate detail about this intriguing woman who sets his pulse on fire.
Rachel can't deny the lean-muscled firefighter is smokin' hot. But after having one too many drinks at the bar where she first meets him, Rachel knows she's made a fool of herself. Yet when he rescues her from the limo, she feels safe for the first time since she was held for ransom as a child. Then her overprotective father insists Fred be her bodyguard—and his close presence kindles a burning desire that only he can extinguish.

Author Interview:
Booklover Sue: What is your writing environment?
My writing environment is more or less wherever I happen to
find myself. I wrote the last chapter of one book in our truck in the parking
lot at the mouth of the Kenai River, while everyone else was fishing. I’ve
written on planes, trains, in a moving car, doctor’s offices, waiting rooms, the
library, countless cafes in several states. But my favorite place to write is
in my cozy armchair in our kitchen when I’m the only one in the house. Now that
is pure luxury!
Booklover Sue: Who is your perfect hero/heroine? Why?
I like heroes and heroines who are struggling with something
in their lives, but have a great sense of humor about it. Humor is very
important to me, in books and in life. I believe that personal struggle is the
way we grow as humans, so I like watching my characters grapple with challenges
and come through them as more compassionate, stronger, more open people.
Booklover Sue: Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?
I’ve been reading YA lately – Veronica Roth (Divergent),
Lisa McCann (Wake), Sherry Thomas. They’re very different authors, but the
storytelling is wonderful in all of these books. Maybe it’s because they’re
trying not to lose their young readers’ interest, but I love the pacing and
narrative balance in YA.
Booklover Sue: What type of book have you always wanted to write?
When I was younger, I wanted to write something really
angst-ridden and tragic – Sylvia Plath crossed with Virginia Woolf. But now
that I’m older and have actually experienced angst, I’m going for the happy
endings. Apologies to my past self, but I want to offer readers a sense of hope
and fun.
Booklover Sue: Top 3 things on your bucket list:
Rent a villa in Tuscany for family and friends. If it has a
vineyard, all the better.
Sail from Alaska to Hawaii.
Attend a World Series game.
Booklover Sue: How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
I was drawn to the idea of a collision of worlds – disaster
can strike anyone, even the wealthiest and most privileged. So what happens
when a regular-guy fireman rescues an heiress who has everything? And what if
she has everything material, and yet she’s in need of rescue at a deeper level?
Rachel, my heroine, might be privileged, but she’s also trapped in a sort of prison
because she was kidnapped as a child and now lives under heavy security. So
Fred, by inspiring her to fall in love, rescues her from her isolation as well.
He might be an ordinary fireman, but his heroism is anything but ordinary.
Booklover Sue: What is your favorite scene in your newest release?
That’s a really hard question, but one of my favorite scenes
is when the other “fire wives” – heroines from previous novels in the series --
are trying to give Rachel a realistic idea of what it’s like to be married to a
fireman. They keep throwing out all the challenges and difficulties, but of
course they end up circling back to what great guys they are and how hot the “made
it through another shift” sex is. Let’s just say they don’t exactly talk her
out of it.
Booklover Sue: What is the last movie you watched and loved?
There’s a movie called Million Dollar Arm that I adored. I
have a weakness for sports movies, and I also love anything to do with India. I
find that country utterly fascinating. So watching a baseball move about the
search for a pitching phenom in India – starring Jon Hamm, no less! – I was in
heaven.
Booklover Sue: What would you consider a “perfect date”?
A hot tub might be involved. A starry night sky. My
wonderful husband. That’s all I really need.
Booklover Sue: What are you currently working on?
My next series is all about a fun-loving Texas minor league
baseball team called the Kilby Catfish. The first book, ALL OF ME, is coming
out in June 2015. I’m incredibly excited about it! I just sent edits back on
the first book and am busy working on the second one.
