Excerpt:

He pushed non-existent glasses up his nose, having forgotten he’d worn contacts today. An ex-girlfriend suggested them. She’d left him in the dust long before he could think to purchase them.

Now he had but he still felt glasses sliding down his face.

A glance at his computer screen told him the knocker was not any of his colleagues. A woman glanced over her shoulder in the image from the surveillance camera installed outside in the alley.

His eyes narrowed. Who could she be? The resolution was not as good as he liked, but the new monitor was on order. If he’d remembered to order it.

He needed to start writing things down.

Sighing he pushed an intercom button. “The front door is on Main Street. We don’t let anyone--”

“Please. Someone’s following me.”

“But you’re not allowed—“

“I’m scared.”

The hair on the back of his neck went up. She was truly in need of saving. Without hesitation he unlocked the door. “Come in.”

She rushed into the room. Her momentum would have knocked down a smaller man.

“Oh, thank you.”

She glanced over her shoulder at the closed and locked door.

“Sit. What’s wrong?”

Q, as his colleagues called him, wished one of the real detectives was here. He was just the gadget guy. His days of cloak and dagger were long gone. And those days hadn’t ended well.

That's when he realized who she was. A flood of feelings he'd thought long dead washed over him. Madison. Why here? Why now? Why her?

Review:

License to Nerd is a story of a young woman, Madison West, who turns to an ex-boyfriend, Peter Quincy, when looking into the disappearance of her husband, Charlie, after he travelled to the Middle East. Peter, known as 'Q' owns a detective agency with his brothers, Matt and Jeff. Q, when he was with Madison, had a skill set that had a clearance so high, most super sleuths wouldn't qualify to know about him. He, however, has blended into regular life, being too involved in his 'gadgets' to even consider being - well who he is. He is the proverbial absent-minded professor and feels the detecting part of his small agency is up to his brothers. At least, that is, until Madison reenters his life. His brothers, fun-loving guys, think their older brother, Q, is a nerd who happens to have a detective license. They tease him, telling him and everyone they know that Q has a license to 'Nerd.'

Madison, beautiful and very desirable, runs to him as she is being followed, a little too closely, by two very dangerous 'bad guys.' She has received something in the mail from her husband and these guys want it. They and their counterparts are willing to kill for whatever this item is.  Q considers taking her case when the building in which his agency and his beloved spy-type gadgets are housed gets blown up. This happened accidentally, just after he and Madison make their escape from the danger trailing her. The pair travel to her home, a veritable fortress, while Q finds himself drawn back into the world he had thought he had left behind and a love for Madison he does not want to lose again.

License to Nerdi is a fun story that draws you into it's tale. I love a good spy thriller as well as a love story and a story of good guys, bad guys and a search for a unique and somewhat mystical item as well as the truth and it gives us all of these.  ~JoEllen
