The Incubus Saga

BLURBS:

INCUBUS:

Nathan only ever wanted a normal life, but for him, life, family, and love are anything but normal.

On the other side of the Veil, dark and light fae exist outside the knowledge of most humans. Nathan Grier was born human, but his twin brother Jim is a changeling. On the run since they were children, time for both of them is running out. Turning to fae hunter Sasha Kelly for help, Nathan must soon face his growing feelings for the other man while trying to save himself and his brother from a fate worse than death.

CHANGELING:

Nathan Grier’s dark fae bounty looms overhead. As he faces the very real threat of becoming a slave to the bounty’s owner, his brother Jim uses his changeling abilities more and more trying to save him. Every changeling throughout history turns evil once their powers manifest, meaning time may be running out for both of them as Jim nears True Awakening.

Fae hunter and incubus, Sasha Kelly, is prophesized to save Nathan, but while Nathan has embraced his feelings for the other man, he fears their time together will be cut short—either from his impending fate…or Jim’s.

Excerpt:

Incubus

“Nathan, I couldn’t make you like me if you didn’t already even if I doused you in pheromones. It doesn’t work that way. This is just us. Just you and me. For all intents and purposes, right now I’m practically human.”

“Ha,” Nathan laughed. “Right.”

“No tricks,” Sasha said, moving in that much closer so he was practically speaking against Nathan’s lips. “Just…”

Nathan didn’t realize his eyes were shut until Sasha's lips were on him. Half of him thought he had to be dreaming and that when he opened his eyes he would be alone. His senses told him differently.

Sasha’s lips were as soft as Nathan’s were chapped, and pliant, and giving. They enveloped Nathan like no lips ever had. A flicker of what Nathan had felt when Sasha shared the feeding experience with him stirred in Nathan's stomach, like an echo, and he found himself leaning in. Sasha was so warm. Even without his jacket, he radiated heat and that glorious smell of leather.

That's when it finally struck Nathan. Fae didn't have a scent—not any that Nathan had ever met before—but Sasha did. And it was intoxicating.

Sasha’s lips were moving against his, and Nathan was moving his too, and their mouths were open just enough that the smallest tilt of Sasha’s head pushed the kiss deep enough to touch tongues. Nathan shivered, and shivered again when he felt Sasha’s hand at the curve of his face and neck—gentle, guiding.

The kiss was lasting too long already. Nathan had to think quickly. He readied himself as much as he could and pulled away, smiling. “See,” he said, and his voice didn’t waver in the slightest. “Nothing. Sorry, man.”

Let's learn a little about Amanda Meuwissen:

What is your writing environment?
Since I have a day job in an office building, I find myself writing at my desk there a lot, surrounded by too strong of air conditioning, a big white desk with an ergonomic keyboard, and giant windows behind me looking out on downtown Minneapolis from the 32nd floor. At home I’m in my small office with a much smaller desk, my laptop, and a kitty at my feet.

Who is your perfect hero and why?

Captain America. Don’t get me wrong, Spider-Man is my favorite hero, but Cap…you can’t beat him. If you asked me to name the top 5 people I would follow into Hell if they asked, Cap would always be at the top (after my husband) because he just exudes good guy without being a boy scout like Superman, and is a solid leader. He respects everyone, believes in what’s right over what’s popular or accepted, and always gets the job done. You just gotta love him.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?

Some of my fellow authors from publisher BigWorldNetwork have really blown me away, such as Daniel Mitchell and his high fantasy novels, The Vlishgnath Chronicles and The Second Crudade, steampunk author Joseph Gatch and The Adventures of Phineas Frakture, and young up and comer Tatjana Mutinelli with The Tenth God of the Infinite Polygon. It gave me shivers.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?

One that gives people that perfect chill up their spine when they start to guess some amazing twist right before it’s revealed, like who Tyler Durden really is in Fight Club.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?

Own a house I had built.
Quit my day job before I retire to just write.
Voice a video game character.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

I was first inspired by this web comic about a teenage boy with an incubus imaginary friend. I couldn’t get my own idea out of me at the time, though, and let it sit. Then one day, while watching an episode of Supernatural, the idea for my incubus character, Sasha Kelly, completely different from anything like the web comic, just…came to me, fully formed. The rest of the story fell into place with my love of fae lore and male relationships.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

There’s this small scene at the end of the first main section of the book where the characters are about to drive off. Nathan, the protagonist, is in the driver’s seat, and his love interest, the incubus Sasha, is in the back with his guitar. They’re waiting for Nathan’s brother Jim to join them. Sasha starts strumming and singing Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” and Nathan absent-mindedly sings along. It’s during this scene, after a whole book of build up before it, and several events already in this book, that Nathan finally realizes he can admit he loves Sasha…and he does. Gets me every time.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?

I am first and foremost working on the third book in The Incubus Saga, Sidhe, which directly follows Changeling. It will be available Summer 2015. From there I have a YA GLBT vampire novel I’m excited about, that I hope to have ready the following year.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

My husband and I watch a lot of TV and movies, and play a lot of video games. Currently Star Wars: The Old Republic, but I’ll be all about Dragon Age: Inquisition come October. I also love cooking and baking, and trying new wines and craft beers.

What would you consider a perfect date?

The night my husband proposed. We spent the evening playing Shadow Hearts II, ordered pizza, then watched the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. He really knew how to pop the question a way this girl would swoon over.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?

I have 13 nephews—no nieces. As the baby of five, my two sisters and two brothers all only have boys between them. I have a god-daughter now, but I love all my boys, from single-digits to the recently graduated. I love being an auntie.

  1. Great interview! Thank you so much for letting me stop here today along the blog tour. It's a pleasure! I'm really excited about how well Changeling has been doing as the sequel to Incubus, and how much everyone seems to like it even more than the first book. I hope some of your readers take a look at this series, and that everyone enjoys the final installment, Sidhe, when it releases next year. Thanks again!
