Two wandering souls discover that true love needs no words in this explosive, fantastical novel from Vonnie Davis.

Somehow able to telepathically communicate with animals, Paisley Munro has found meaning in her so-called gifts by working as a veterinary assistant. But while traveling to Scotland for a relative’s funeral, Paisley fears that she really has lost her mind. Out in the highlands, she hears distinctly human thoughts coming from a wild bear. Terrified and desperate, she returns to the lodge and collapses in the powerful arms of its owner, a mysterious man with whom she shares a simmering attraction.

Creighton Matheson and his fellow shape-shifters have been roaming this land freely for centuries. Now Paisley may inherit his home, putting his kind in grave danger. His mistrust only deepens when he realizes she can read his mind. Yet he cannot deny that this tantalizing woman makes him burn with desire—and hunger for the prospect of a tender love. Now Creighton must decide which would hurt more: revealing the truth or losing Paisley forever.

Let's Learn a Little about Vonnie Davis:

What is your writing environment?
When I’m home, I sit on my recliner with my laptop on my lap. But we have special writing haunts we visit almost every day to consume mass amounts of coffee and write. Calvin, my husband, reads his iPad while I write. My favorite spot, though, is a sidewalk café in Paris.

Who is your perfect hero/heroine? Why?
MacKenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard. It’s an oldie and I read it twice a year. Wolf MacKenzie is all alpha, part-Native, ex-Special Forces from ‘Nam and a barrel load of attitude. Mary is a virginal school teacher with the nerve to go toe-to-toe with him. I love the dynamics of it. The ying and yang pull. And the way she ends up holding this rough guy in the palm of her hand.

Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?
I love the verbal imagery of AJ Nuest who can make you see what you’re reading. I’ve fallen in love with the characters of Cherrie Lynn in Leave Me Breathless. And am wowed by the plotting of Tracy Wolff’s books.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?
Political intrigue. Yeah, I know, so what am I doing writing romance after romance? Because it’s a genre I know. I’ve been reading it since the sixties which makes me older than dirt, doesn’t it?

Top 3 things on your bucket list:
To make the Best Seller List.
I want to get a tattoo.
I want to travel to Scotland.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
I’d had surgery to remove cancer from one of my salivary glands, a four-hour surgery with a long recovery time. About a month after the operation, two golden spots showed up in the back of my mind. They started glowing, and I thought brain cancer! The doctors didn’t get it all and it’s spread to my brain. I was scared to death to call for an appointment, but the day I’d worked up the nerve, the golden orbs blinked. Blinked, mind you! Eyes? These were eyes? I didn’t need to call a cancer doctor; I needed to call a shrink! They watched me for about two weeks and then one night left my head and moved into the body of a bear standing at the foot of my bed.
Now I have a strange philosophy about characters…that they hunt for the right authors to write their stories. I looked at that big bear and said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t write children’s stories.” He shook his head. “What? You’re not that kind of bear?” He shook his head again before shifting into this handsome, muscular Scot in a kilt. “Oh dear, you’re still in the wrong house. I don’t write paranormal.”
He sauntered to my side of the bed and sat. “Aye, lassie, but ye will. I’m Creighton Matheson. In Scottish, mathe means bear and I am laird of a bear sleuth. We are sons of bears. Did ye ever hear how bears came to be extinct in Scotland?” And he told me the most fantastic tale with Vikings and battle and caves along the coast of Scotland.
The next morning, I googled “Are bears extinct in Scotland” and found out the government was trying to reintroduce the species back into the Highlands. My research claimed the bears had been wiped out by hunters, but my late night bear-shifter’s story was so much more interesting, so I wrote it his way.

What is your favorite scene in your newest release?
Creighton and Paisley’s first kiss. He just wow’s her with it…and me too.

What is the last movie you watched and loved?
“The Jersey Boys” – The music of my teens.

What would you consider a “perfect date”?
A dinner cruise on the Seine. Can you tell Paris is my favorite city?

What are you currently working on?
Book two of this series. It’s called A Highlander’s Passion. It’s the love story of Bryce and Kenzie and the first draft is nearly done.
