Excerpt:

She opened her eyes. Or at least she thought she had. That was her intention. But everything was black. Maybe it was still dark out. She tried again, this time there was a fuzzy blur... a shadow... a stray bit of light... and a voice. But as quick as it all came, it left.

Sometime later she became aware of sounds and sensations. Everything was still dark. She had no sense of who she was or where she was. There was a feeling of being but not of knowing anything else. It was just blank. Something brushed over her body, it was light, delicate really. She recoiled inside, pulling back, trying to shrink more into the deep, dark hole that seemed to be her companion. Fear wrapped her in its cloak, like a living, breathing monster, capturing her in a net she felt unable to get out of.

A very distant part of her brain screamed at her, to get the hell away... to move... to do something... but it was so far away, so faint. She could feel the desperation but could barely grasp what it was telling her to do... or why. She tried to wade through the enveloping darkness to reach it. But she couldn't move. She was trapped in a tiny black cave with nowhere to go... nowhere to hide... with nothing to see. The panic which had been so remote a moment ago was suddenly all there was. The harder she fought it, the more she fell down the dark well. She had no sensation of self, no meaning of who she was. There was heaviness but she didn't know anything beyond the little gloomy hole that she seemed to inhabit.

She made a sound. Or at least she thought it came from her but when she couldn't repeat it, she wasn't sure. Something moved, maybe even touched her. She couldn't be certain. There was a tiny sense of pain but then it receded, taking the anxiousness with it... then there was nothing.

Sounds filtered into her little world.

"Now... do it."

"She's..."

Only snippets of their words drifted into her consciousness. She wanted to ask what the two men were talking about. Who they were talking about? And where was she? Who she was?

She wanted to call out but remembered that the last time she'd made a sound or tried to, everything had disappeared. She kept quiet. She waited. Slowly more things started to come to her.

Let's Learn a Little About Maggie Thom!

What is your writing environment?

You know I write pretty much anywhere, anytime. J But did I convert a bedroom into an office space. I have a desk and chair and a window that is often too distracting. I have inspiring quotes on my wall and as knick-knacks - "Go in the Direction of your dreams. Live the Life you've imagined." David M Thoreau; "Live like you laugh, laugh like you love, love like you live" Glenna Mageau; along with several others. I use a cork board and a white board that I write notes on, post notes on that help me with outlining and plotting my story. Now that I'm learning Scrivner, I can do all of that stuff on my computer - love it. I love nature so I painted the room a moss green. I also have a CD (I know old school) J and radio in my office as I like listening to music as I write.

Who is your perfect hero and why?

My perfect hero is someone who's strong, sexy but also has a vulnerable side. Someone who respects a woman who gives as good as she gets and he respects a strong, sexy woman to be able to make up her own mind and follow the profession/life she wants. Someone who's easy to talk to about anything. And someone who knows how to romance a girl.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?

There are several that I have recently discovered but there are a few that I think are exceptional authors:

Donna Cook
Christy Birmingham
Intisar Khanani
P.M. Terrell
Jeanne Marie
Jane Risdon

What type of book have you always wanted to write?

I've written romance. I've written suspense and thrillers which I love writing and which all three of my published novels are. But one day I'd like to write a self-development book. I've actually written a few but I've never done anything with them. They need some work, so maybe one day I'll get them to where they can be published. J

Top 3 things on your bucket list?

1.I'd love to go on a safari in South Africa. I think this would be so cool to see all those wild animals in their natural habitats. Awesome.

2. Someday I plan on going skydiving. This scares the heck out of me but it's something I'd like to try. I bet the view is amazing.

3. I'd like to go on a three to five day kayaking trip. I love to kayak but have only done day trips.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

After I had finished writing Captured Lies, Book one in the Caspian Wine Series, I knew I had to write a sequel. Well actually the idea or push really came from one of my beta readers. I had been thinking about changing it up and when she made a suggestion for a change, my mind immediately leapt to how I could make a sequel, if I made a few small changes. So that's what I did. The actual idea for Deceitful Truths came from a combination of things. Geoff in Caspian Wine is a really evil man and so I started to think about what someone like him, very rich, very controlling, living a dual life, could do to another person to screw with their life but that would benefit him. I happened at the time to be watching a program on date-rape and how prevalent it really is. So an idea started forming that if someone used Rohypnol on someone else, why would they and what would be the result. This story explores what happens when someone has lost a week of their life and there are some consequences how would they go about finding answers. And I can't tell you anymore or it would ruin the plot for you. J

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

There are a few that I really enjoyed writing but one that comes to mind is when Tarin is caught at the office in the middle of the night. She needs to find answers and figures the only way she can is using not only the connections her bosses have but the secure network. When she gets caught she comes up with a lame excuse as to what she's doing, so when her boss offers her a drink she takes it. And gets smashed really fast.

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?

I am working on two novels right now - Split Seconds and Deadly Ties. I am hoping to have one finished and published late this year or early 2015.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love to read, to hike, go kayaking, spend time with my family, watch movies, play games… anything that keeps me from doing housework. J

What would you consider a perfect date?

The prefect date is when my husband tells me we're going out on Friday night but won't tell me where. We go out for supper, which he treats like it is our anniversary even though it's not. We talk, laugh, have a few drinks and then once we are done, we go for a stroll in a park or something. On other days, when it's nice, we'll take the kayaks and go kayaking down a creek or river and go for a picnic.

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?

I played fastball for thirty years. J
