Review, Interview and Giveaway - Into The Darkness by K.F. Breene

INTO THE DARKNESS

BLURB:

I’d always been different. I saw objects in the night where others saw emptiness. Large, human shaped shadows, fierce yet beautiful, melting into the darkness. I collected secrets like other women collected bells; afraid to fully trust lest my oddities be exposed.

Until I saw him. He’d been gliding down the street, unshakable confidence in every step. It wasn’t just that he was breathtakingly handsome with perfect features. Something about him drew me. Sucked my focus to him and then tugged at my body. As his eyes met mine, I was entrapped.

No one had noticed him. He’d been right there, just beyond the light, but only I had perceived.

I had to know if he was real. Or maybe I really was crazy. And even when my secret box was blasted wide open, dangers hurled at me like throwing knives, I couldn’t stop until I unraveled his true identity.

I just had to know.

“She was fated to live.”

“Then why must you save her?”

“Often Fate is struck down by dumb luck.”

Excerpt:

I huddled on my bed later that night with my knees pulled up to my chest. Thinking. Focusing on what it was I couldn’t remember. It was there, hovering around my conscious mind. Nudging me. Waiting for me to pay attention. To remember. It was the key to that insane situation in the park.

I flung my wet hair out of my face,  pulled the sleeves of my pajamas over my hands, and  glanced out  the window.

The stranger waited. Outside, he watched, staring up at my shaded windows, just wanting me to know he was there. He was waiting for me to come down to him. He had the same questions I did—I was certain  he felt the same things.

How did I know this? I just did. And that scared the holy crap outta me!

My Review:

This was a very enjoyable paranormal romance.  Sasha has always been a little different and she has a hard time trusting people because of their reactions to this difference.  She sees figures in the shadows yet no one believes her.  She actually thinks she might be a little crazy but I found her very special and likable.  She is spunky and very courageous.  She is finally close to being happy in a relationship with Jared yet she still keeps this one secret from him.  The secret does come out in a night of revelations and now Sasha is determined to find out why she sees the people she does by getting the attention of The Boss aka Stefan.  This book is very enjoyable and well written, I had a hard time putting it down and the story was very unique and attention grabbing.  The story is filled with secrets, chemistry and action of the scary sort.  I am definitely looking forward to more tales in this series. ~Booklover Sue

Let's Learn a Little about K. F. Breene

1. Do you ever wish you were someone else? Who?

I don’t wish I was someone else, but I do wish I was me in a different situation. For example, I wish my job was a zoologist in Africa working with the large mammals. Or I wish I had the money to travel anywhere I wanted any time I wanted so I could learn about different cultures while living there for a time. I think it would be a waste to be someone completely different. I’ve spent so long getting to know me, and getting comfortable and confident with myself, that to change up now would mean I’d have to start all over.

2. What did you do on your last birthday?

Every other year I celebrate my birthday. They just aren’t that important anymore, so I need a year off from merriment. So last year was a ‘down’ year. I took my daughter and her friend to Chuck E Cheese. In addition to the food being terrible, and the place being run-down and kinda gross, my daughter’s friend got sick. Then my daughter got sick. So I spent my birthday being thrown up on. Amazingly, since it was an off-year, I didn’t actually mind all that much. I mean, throw up is gross, obviously, but it didn’t ruin my birthday.
This year I’ll have to go crazy.

3. Do you have any tattoos?  Where? When did you get it/them? Where are they on your body?

I don’t have any. I’ve thought about getting one for about ten years, but couldn’t decide on what to get or where to get it. Since its permanent, I just didn’t get one. I still might, except now I’d have to get it on an ankle or something since the rest of my body isn’t as in shape as I could want…

4. What are you working on right now?

My current project is a contemporary romance about a girl on the wrong side of happily ever after. Her fiancé left her for another woman, prompting a sort of life crisis. She heads to Montana for a seasonal dude ranch job, something she’s always wanted to do, and meets up with her childhood friend that she hasn’t seen since she was nine. He’s a survival instructor, teaching people how to survive in the wild. His quiet support couldn’t come at a better time, her love and closeness to him as a child just as prevalent and gratifying as an adult. As she is reacquainting herself with him, and trying to get her life back on track, she finds herself stranded with him in the wilds of Montana. She has to learn to trust again in the direst of circumstances with a man she’d only thought of as a brother. It’s a story about picking yourself up after the worst happens, and about childhood love that is given a chance to grow into a meaningful relationship as an adult.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
A wine country native, K.F. Breene moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making and editing films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she often wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.
While she could wrangle numbers with the best of 'em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, not worried about lighting, shutter speed or editing equipment. Turns out, a computer is much easier to manage than a crowd of actors. She should know, she was an actor at one time.

  3. Laughing at the tattoo anecdote: I didn't factor in gravity and maturing muscle tone when I took the plunge and got several inked in "sexy spots".They were my faves and I got so many compliments! Now I like the dones on my ankles and wrists best. ;)
