Loving Lady Lazuli
by Shehanne Moore
Only one man in England can identify her. Unfortunately he’s living next door.
Ten years ago sixteen year old Sapphire, the greatest jewel thief England has ever known, ruined Lord Devorlane Hawley’s life. Now she’s dead and buried, all the respectable widow, Cassidy Armstrong, wants is the chance to prove who she really is.
But not only does her new neighbor believe he knows that exactly, he’s hell-bent on revenge. All he needs is the actual proof. So when he asks her to choose between being his mistress, or dangling on the end of a rope, only Sapphire can decide…
What’s left for a woman with nowhere left to go, but to stay exactly where she is?
And hope, that when it comes to neighbors, Devorlane Hawley won’t prove to be the one from hell.
“How…how do you know my name?” The thought he did made her heart pound. Now he was going to tell her the truth that had so far proved elusive. The one she had held to for twenty-two years. Who she really was. Cassidy Armstrong, the rightful owner of Barwych. She set the empty glass down on a side-table—scratched, in need of restoration, but still worth a bob or two.
“I made it my special business to acquire it from Tilly.”
In itself? It was enough to turn her insides to queasy froth. What made her think they were about to acquaint themselves with the Turkish rug, however, was the casual manner in which he now also acquired the chair opposite. No bow. No hand kiss. Nothing. Just a complete ignoring of her, so she might as well not be there, as he brushed past.
"Do forgive me, Mrs. Armstrong, at times that scratch is almost painful.” Leveling his gaze on her, he flicked the creases from the knees of his trousers. Then he stretched his long, lean legs across the rug. All the way across. Blocking her exit to the door. “I acquired it in the Portuguese Peninsular. Do you know of such places?”
“The Portuguese Peninsular?” Belle’s mouth dropped open. “Devorlane… Don’t be ridiculous. Why on earth should Cassidy know of such places? She’s a widow for goodness sake.”
“Really?” The flicker in his dark eyes said there was nothing more ridiculous. “You know I find that simply amazing. Doubly, truly amazing.”
Shehanne Moore writes gritty, witty, historical romance, set wherever takes her fancy. What hasn’t she worked at while pursuing her dream of becoming a published author? Shehanne still lives in Scotland, with her husband Mr Shey. She has two daughters. When not writing intriguing historical romance, where goals and desires of sassy, unconventional heroines and ruthless men, mean worlds collide, she plays the odd musical instrument and loves what in any other country, would not be defined, as hill-walking.
Her second book featuring a hottie scottie, His Judas Bride was recently released.
