Movie - Sinister

I love all types of genres when it comes to movie watching, but my favorite is horror.  "Sinister" is a R rated 2012 release movie in the genre label of horror/mystery/thriller.  It stars Ethan Hawke as Ellison Oswalt, a true-crime writer, who is wishing for his next big bestseller.  He is hoping he can produce it by moving his family into the house of his newest murder/child missing case.  He chooses not to disclose this to his wife and children however.  As he starts researching this crime, he finds more than he ever imagined.  A box filled with home movies, found in the attic, reveals more murders spanning over 40 years and multiple states.  A figure appears in each of these films that has Ellison wondering who or what it is.  As he becomes obsessed with this mystery, his family starts of suffer from his fixation with these crimes.

I found this movie to be more thriller than horror and very dark, both in content and filming(I kept saying, "turn on the lights!).  I did enjoy Ethan Hawke's performance as well as the whole cast of secondary actors.  It is a very slow moving story as you much watch each film and the effects it has on Ellison.  It is not a "jump out of your seat" scary but does have it "OMG" moments.  I don't think I would watch it again as I am not a fan of children as victims, being a parent and all.  If I had to rate this on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it 6.  I found the best prices for the DVD are Best Buy and Amazon at $14.99.
