Pre-Release Blitz & Giveaway - A League of Her Own by Karen Rock

A League of Her Own
by Karen Rock

He was attractive, talented…and way off limits.

Heather Gadway may have been a world-class college pitcher and a top university coach, but she's a rank amateur when it comes to managing the Falcons, her father's struggling minor league team. And when it comes to managing her aggravating attraction to Garrett Wolf, their talented new pitcher. It's going to be difficult enough to make it as the first female manager in the league and prove to her overly critical father she's worthy. No distractions. No missteps. And certainly no romances with players. Everything stands between them—including their troubled pasts—even as Heather's world falls apart and Garrett's the one who's there to catch her…

PRE-ORDER

“What else do you want?” The question came from a part of her she didn’t recognize. Asking a man like Garrett a flirtatious question was playing with fire.

Garrett groaned, longing sharpening his features. “You.”

Without waiting for her response, his lips captured hers. She knew she should push him away, but instead her head fell back, her pulse leaping in her throat. The pressure was exquisite as he nibbled and explored. Soft. Warm. Gentle. His lips moved slowly, gradually exerting more pressure.

This felt incredible. Better than the last time. She had to stop this, but need seized her, shoving aside her good intentions.

Her body hummed and a fuzzy sensation filled her head, making it hard to focus on anything but the feel of him, the evergreen scent of the forest and his aftershave heightening her senses.

His hands gripped her waist as she swayed against him, holding her as his mouth sampled her lower lip, then put pressure on the top. Nerves sent small shock waves through her chest, and her hand rose to stroke the back of his neck, making him tremble against her.

Suddenly his kiss intensified, growing fierce and demanding. His lips moved fast against hers, their tongues tangling, causing warmth to explode in her body, melting every piece of her.

She moaned and Garrett’s arms tightened, bringing her closer still. Her lips maneuvered against his in response, loving his sweet taste. Garrett shuddered, curling his fist into her hair with a groan. She loved how her touch affected him, how it affected her.

At last his lips let her go, and he looked down at her tenderly, pleasure in his eyes, his chest rising and falling hard.

“I wasn’t getting involved with anyone. Planned to focus only on baseball,” he said when his breath came easier. “But I can’t stay away from you. You follow me, even in my sleep. Your eyes.” He kissed each lid. “Your smile.” He pressed his lips to each corner. “These freckles.” His warm mouth brushed her cheeks.

Her chest expanded, taking in his beautiful words. This incredible moment. And then it hit her, reality a cold shower.

She opened her eyes and scooted away. “Garrett. I don’t know.”

His eyes moved out over the falls, tracking the sprays of water as they hit the jutting rocks and tumbled to earth. “You don’t trust me.”

Her mouth opened and closed. He was right. While he touched a chord inside that’d never sounded for anyone else, she still couldn’t put her heart in harm’s way again. And she knew without a doubt that if Garrett let her down, he’d devastate her as much as her mother had. Even more. She’d loved and lost too many times to try again, especially with her father gone so recently.

“I’m sorry,” she said inadequately as he stood and helped her to her feet.

His blank expression gave little away. She wondered if, deep down, a part of him was relieved they weren’t taking things further. He’d said he hadn’t wanted distractions. And now she wouldn’t be one.

“I can’t make you believe in me, Heather.” His voice was steady and strong. “I need someone who’ll give me a chance to earn her trust.”

Review - Hot Ink Anthology

Hot Ink Anthology
by Carrie Ann Ryan,
Cari Quinn and Sidney Bristol

Blurb:

Forever Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan
A Montgomery Ink Novella

The idea of a May-December romance has never looked so hot when it comes to broody lawyer, Morgan and sizzling tattoo artist, Callie. Between conniving family members, blondes with too much time on their hands, and their own misgivings, trust in the bedroom and out of it won't come easy.

Takedown by Cari Quinn
A Tapped Out Bonus Novella

After honorably discharged Navy SEAL Liam Walsh discovers his estranged brother, Slater, is living platonically with Abby, the only woman Liam ever loved, he vows to remind her of their scorching history. But Abby has changed since Liam left, and he only has one long weekend to stake his claim...

Bound Memories by Sidney Bristol
A Bayou Bound Novella

Kit Carson is back in his home town to do more than promote his latest reality TV win on Tattoo King. He's returned to win over the woman who kinked up his world, but Renee LeBlanc isn't the girl he remembers. Ten years can go in a blink of an eye and he won't let her walk away from him again.

My Review:

This anthology features novellas from series and I do not believe readers need to be familiar with these series to fully understand and enjoy this anthology.  As in most anthologies, I found that there are always some stories I enjoy and others, not so much.  I will start off by saying that I am reading A Montgomery Ink series by Carrie Ann Ryan and A Bayou Bound series by Sidney Bristol.  I really enjoyed Forever Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan!  It has a fantastic storyline as well a wonderful blend of romantic chemistry, drama and sexual energy...I did not want to put it down until the end.  I loved that Callie and Morgan appear to be complete opposites but in actuality are more alike than most people would believe.  Callie is a young tattoo artist who has been eagerly awaiting getting her own tattoo chair and finds out that Morgan will be her first client.  Morgan is an upper crust lawyer, older than Callie but utterly fascinated by her.  I enjoyed the building of their relationship with all the up and downs that come with being social opposites.  Fans of Carrie Ann Ryan will be mesmerized by this wonderful story!  Takedown by Cari Quinn was an interesting story that I had a harder time enjoying, it could be because I enjoyed the first story so much.  Liam and Abby are both interesting characters but I didn't feel fully connected to them.  Liam has been discharged from the Navy and is hoping to reconnect with his brother and sister.  He is shocked to find Abby, the only woman he has ever loved but left, living at his brother's place.  I was a little confused by Liam and his past actions and I think those actions colored by perception of him.  This story did have some interesting characters but overall not a story that I would read again...maybe followers of the series would enjoy it.  Bound Memories by Sidney Bristol was another interesting romantic story that I enjoyed.  I am following this series so I was familiar with most of the characters.  It was well written and the sexual chemistry was sizzling hot (as all of Sidney Bristol's books are).  Kit and Renee have not seen each other in 10 years and now Kit is back in town to visit his dying relative, a man Renee has been helping with his past cold cases.  A blend of mystery, suspense and romance that will keep readers turning the pages until the end.

Overall, this was a very entertaining and sexy hot anthology that I highly recommend to romance readers. ~Booklover Sue

Genre: Romance

Tour Dates: November 28th - 30th

Ever since his divorce several years ago, Dr. Tanner Rhodes has spent Christmas Eve alone. He has a tradition; he sits by the fire, sips his brandy, and falls asleep by the lights of the tree. When his son Aiden's beautiful friend, Sofia, shows up unexpectedly at his door bearing gifts, everything changes. When had Sofia become a woman?

Warning - Adult language and some explicit sexual content.

This is a short, steamy holiday story.

Excerpt:

You're going to make this hard on me, aren't you?” An uneasy smile graced her pouty lips.
“I'm sorry, but you have to clarify this for me.”

“I know you spend this night by yourself every year. I usually do too because of my dad's work schedule. I didn’t see why either one of us should be alone tonight.” She leaned closer to his face allowing him to take in more of her enticing scent. “I wanted to be with you. I mean, I want to be with you.”

He continued to run his fingertips along her cheek and jawbone indulging in the feel of her soft skin. “You didn’t want me to be alone? That's very sweet.” Perhaps he had misunderstood her intentions. For some odd reason, disappointment filled him again. Maybe he wanted her to admit to more.

“You probably think I'm crazy. I swear I'm not a stalker.”

He laughed.

“I don’t know what it is, but I'm very intrigued by you.” When she looked away from him he sensed her embarrassed over her words. Obviously, it took a lot for her to come to him tonight.

He pressed his palm to her face. “I was thinking the same thing about you.”

Her big brown eyes widened as he raised her head to look at him.

“I'll be honest, I haven't given you much thought through the years, other than you being my son's shy, awkward friend, but tonight when I saw you, I couldn’t believe the woman you've become. You're breathtaking.”

She shook her head.

“You don’t believe me?” He twirled a stand of her hair around his finger. “Why not?”

“No one's ever said that about me before.”

“Hmm.” He didn’t know what possessed him, but he brushed his lips against her jaw. He had to know if her skin would be as soft to his lips as it was against his fingers.

She quivered as he lingered against her face.

“Still cold?” he asked.

“No.” She stared directly into his eyes. “Quite the opposite.”

“Can I kiss you?”

Knox
I’m not what you would call normal. The word has no meaning to me. But I’ve been pretending to act normal. It’s something I’ve been practicing since I’ve been aware of the thrum and its significance in my life. I was seven when I first heard the lullaby. Second grade, just before recess. It happened in a squall. Nothing and then all at once. I remember everything about that day. The bell rang and the other children went to play. Not me. Never me. I always stayed behind, mostly by choice, but never contested because the other children thought I was weird. I think maybe they unconsciously knew that I was lacking something fundamental. Something they all had and I didn’t, and maybe even never had at all. Whatever it was, I was alienated, excluded from their games. But I couldn’t say it bothered me. I was indifferent to it. Katia would sometimes play with me. Yuri’s youngest daughter, my adoptive sister, kept me company when she wasn’t with her own friends. But she’d been home sick that day.
In the small classroom with its oversized, rainbow-colored letters hanging over the chalkboard and tiled number blocks littering the carpeted floor, I sat in the beanbag chair staring fixatedly at the class pet. Sweet Ms. Devon always stayed with me but she’d left for a moment. A moment to heat her lunch. A moment to speak to a fellow staff member in the teachers’ lounge. But it’d been a moment too long for me. The noise in my head had been too loud. The urge too strong. The pink-eyed little rabbit, Mr. Apples, and the yellow pair of scissors sitting blades down in Ms. Devon’s “Best Teacher” mug had been too much of a temptation for me to resist.
The pounding of my heart. The lullaby and the thrum. The latch had given way beneath my shaking fingers, soaked with apprehension and anticipation. The struggle. The frantic movement of something living, something warm, with the same accelerated heartbeat as mine grappling for life. Desperate for freedom even while knowing the inevitable hand of death loomed was intoxicating. The thrill, the excitement, the sweet seductive power. I swam in it. Like too much candy on Halloween. Too much ice cream in the summer. It had been a quick death for Mr. Apples. It had been crude. Amateurish. But ever so effective in quieting the discord of my mind.
Poor, sweet Ms. Devon came to find me on the floor of the overly-bright classroom. Huddled on the floor, covered in Mr. Apples. She’d been one to smile a lot. But I stole her smile that day and replaced it with horror instead. Her pretty features contorted like a Kabuki mask.

EXCERPT:

Derek smiled, walked up to the bed, and leaned over her, his hands on each side of Emilie’s head.

“Mmm, I like this view,” she said, his proximity and the position stirring her blood.

“Me, above you?” he asked, heat slipping into his dark gaze. Emilie nodded, and Derek’s eyes narrowed. “What else do you like?”

Her stomach went on a loop-the-loop. “The way you talked to me. Against the window.”

Derek pushed his hips between her thighs and slowly rocked against her core. “You’re very inspiring,” he said, humor sliding in behind the heat in his eyes.

She didn’t want to ruin the mood, but she needed to check. “Does your leg hurt too much for this?”

A quick kiss. “No, but if it does, we’ll find a position that puts less stress on it.” He waggled his eyebrows.

“Yeah? Well, in that case, am I inspiring you right now?” she asked, arching a brow. She loved how free she felt with him to say whatever came to mind.

One at a time, his hands manacled her wrists against the bed. “Definitely.” He circled the bulge in his jeans against her clit, although the tightness of her skirt kept him from getting as close as she needed him.

Her heartbeat took off at the promise of his touch. “Derek,” she whispered, wriggling her fingers. God, she wanted to pull her skirt out of the way.

“What, Em? What do you need?” His gaze bore into hers and scorched the blood running through her veins.

“You.” She lifted her feet up onto the edge of the bed and spread her thighs wide—and almost cheered when the movement drew up her skirt and increased his access to her.

“My touch?” he asked, rocking into her.

“Yeah,” she said, lifting her hips to meet his thrust.

“My mouth?”

Given how amazingly he kissed, she could only imagine the skill with which he could apply his lips and tongue elsewhere. “Yes.”

“My cock?”

“Please,” she whispered.

Derek released her, slid back off the bed, and pulled her to her feet. Her clothes were off before she’d realized what was happening. His eyes absolutely blazed as they looked over her body, drinking in the lacy black push-up bra and thong she still wore. “Take them off,” he said, rubbing his lips. “Slowly.”

Author Bio:

Mina was born and raised in the East Farthing of Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England) and spend her childhood learning all the sorts of things generally required of a professional adventurer. Able to ride, box, shoot, make and read maps, make chainmail and use a broadsword (with varying degrees of efficiency) she was disgusted to find that adventuring is not considered a suitable occupation these days.
So, instead of slaying dragons and hunting vampires and the like, Mina spends her days writing about hot shifters, government conspiracies and vampire lords with more than their fair share of RAWR. Turns out wanna-be adventurers have quite the turn of imagination after all...
(But she keeps that sword sharp, just in case the writing career is just a dream and she really *is* an adventurer.)
The boring part: A full time author and cover artist, Mina can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or graphics tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She's addicted to coffee and would like to be addicted to chocolate, but unfortunately chocolate dislikes her.
