BLURB:

March Fellows assumed he had all the time in the galaxy to pursue a relationship with Jules, an alien exchange student from Xenia, until she vanished without a trace. After years of searching, he finds his lost love on the eve of her arranged marriage.

The daughter of the Xenian emperor, Julietta never meant to fall in love with a Terran man while visiting Earth. Leaving to fulfill her responsibilities on her home planet opened up a hole in her heart that could never be filled. When March, now a cyborg, unexpectedly shows up just before she is to be bonded, she struggles to find the courage to turn him away a second time and follow through with her duty.

Before she can act, the lovers are thrust into a political conspiracy that threatens the Xenian empire and their lives.

Claimed by the Cyborg is a standalone read in the Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance series.

EXCERPT:

Naimo and Kur should have paraded onto the area floor already. Had her father left to find out the reason for the delay? A heartsick side of her dreaded the Sha’A’la for its completion would bring her one step closer to bonding, while a resigned part wanted to get it over with. Once bonded, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore—she would only have to live with the result.

Movement across the way caught her attention, and her gaze went straight to March. Her father’s aide leaned over him, and March rose to his feet and followed the servant out.

Why was he leaving? What could the servant have said to him? Would he return? Great Xenia, she hoped not. His presence—even far on the other side of the arena—made what needed to be done much harder.

Her mother reached over and patted her hand. “No need to frown. Your father is taking care of the delay. The Sha’A’la will proceed very soon, and then you and Naimo will be bonded.” She smiled. “It’s difficult to wait. I have to confess, I got a little nervous when your father fought our Sha’A’la—and it occurred on schedule.” She gave a little laugh.

Julietta released a silent exhale. Maintaining a level tone, she asked, “Did you grow to love him?”

“Who?”

“Father. Did you ever grow to love him?”

“Love? That is well and good for troubadours to fill commoner’s heads with romantic frivolity. The bond your father and I share is sounder than any built on love. Our foundation is not based upon ephemeral whims, but mutual respect and commitment. We complement each other.”

“So you don’t think it is possible for love to grow?”

“Well, I suppose it’s possible, but why would that matter when you have an empire to rule?”

Because I have an empire to rule. That is why it matters.

 Talking with author Cara Bristol!

What is your writing environment?
Cara Bristol: I have my very own office, which I love, love, love. My husband and I used to share an office, but when we built our current house, we planned for two offices. I have an L-shaped mission style desk that faces the front yard where I see deer and squirrels. My cat sleeps on her scratch post next to my desk as I write. I have a laptop, but I use it most of the time like a desktop computer.

What is your writing process?
Cara Bristol: I’m a pantser; I make it up as I go along. I get a story idea, and I think about it until I know enough to write the first two to four chapters, and then I start writing. As the characters develop, so does the story. Sometimes I’ll go for walk to think about what happens next. I almost always know the ending when I start writing, so I know where I’m going—I just have to figure out how to get there. However, in Claimed by the Cyborg, the ending changed! The heroine ended up doing something different than what I had originally thought she would. When I’m writing the first draft, I write every day, a minimum of 1500 words, and I try to shoot for 2000. Revisions take half again as along. So if I write the first draft in two months, it will take me another month to polish it before I can send it to my editor.

What authors have caught your interest lately and why?
Cara Bristol: My co-authors of Pets In Space, a sci-fi romance anthology I did with eight other authors. I’d read a few of them, but not until PISA had I read them all. Now I want to read their other books.

What was your inspiration for this particular novel?
Cara Bristol: The heroine, Julietta, was a minor “walk-on” character in Married to the Cyborg, the freebie that readers get when they subscribe to my newsletter. In Married, Julietta mentions that she’s engaged to be married, is planning her “bonding ceremony,” but she hasn’t met the man she’s going to marry yet. Say what??? How can that be? Well, I had to explore that. So that inspired Claimed by the Cyborg.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
Cara Bristol: I can’t tell you my No. 1 favorite scene, because that would be a spoiler. But my second favorite scene is when March and Julietta finally see each again. They can’t yet speak to one another, so all you get is their reaction. Muwhaha…

What are you working on now and when can we expect it to be available?
Cara Bristol: Right now, I’m writing an alien “mail order bride” science fiction romance, which I plan to release April-ish. I also plan to write another Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance (release July-ish), and then I have ideas for a new sci-fi romance series.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Cara Bristol: I get together with friends, watch TV, read, and travel. But mostly I write. J

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?
Cara Bristol: My superpower is eating dessert. I eat healthy most of the time, and rarely eat dessert, but if I were to totally indulge myself, let’s just say I have a tolerance for pie.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Visit South America.
2. See all 50 states in the US.
3. Learn to fly a kite.
