Blurb:

Mary Ann Rivers continues her Burnside family series—perfect for readers of Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, and Ruthie Knox—as two people try to share their hearts without losing their cool.

Dr. Sam Burnside is convinced that volunteering at an urban green-space farm in Lakefield, Ohio, is a waste of time—especially with his new health clinic about to open. He only goes to mollify his partner, suspecting she wants him to lighten up. Then Sam catches sight of Nina Paz, a woman who gives off more heat than a scorcher in July. Her easy smile and flirty, sizzling wit has him forgetting his infamous need for control.
Widowed when her husband was killed in Afghanistan, Nina has learned that life exists to take chances. As the daughter of migrant workers turned organic farmers, she’s built an exciting and successful business by valuing new opportunities and working hard to take care of her own. But when Sam pushes for a relationship that goes beyond their hotter-than-fire escapades, Nina ignores her own hard-won wisdom. She isn’t ready for a man who needs saving—even if her heart compels her to take the greatest risk of all: love.

Let's learn a little about Mary Ann Rivers:

What is your writing environment?
Mainly, I write on the sofa with my laptop, or sometimes in public places. I do have a desk, but have rarely used it except when I have a lot of author tasks to accomplish. I have a lot of focus when writing, so my environment rarely matters.

Who is your perfect hero/heroine? Why?
If for myself, I want someone who really sees me, is exceedingly patient, and emotionally expressive – and who I can’t stop thinking about boning. Writing one, I want them to be interesting, which often means they make a lot of bad decisions.

Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?
Carolyn Crane has caught and held my interest so hard, for a long time now.

What type of book have you always wanted to write?
A time travel book.

Top 3 things on your bucket list:
*an overseas trip where nothing is planned in advance
*to have a cabin on the Olympic Peninsula (I lived there, and feel in love with it)
*to figure out how to express myself with clothes.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?
My friend Eliza is an urban homesteader (someone who lives in the city, but is self-sustaining. She has a huge garden and chickens, etc.), and I wanted to get inside of that world. I also wanted to write a hero with Sam’s struggles – a good friend of mine lives with ADHD as an adult and the strengths and how the world doesn’t support these strengths, is fascinating.

What is your favorite scene in your newest release?
Sam and Nina’s absolutely terrible first date.

What is the last movie you watched and loved?
I recently did a rewatch of GOONIES – my favorite movie, ever. I also saw the newest Muppet movie and fell in love with Tina Fey all over again.

What would you consider a “perfect date”?
Any date with my beloved, actually. No bad dates when you’re in love (ask Sam and Nina)!

What are you currently working on?
I am planning the rest of the Burnsides series (LOVE, and ALWAYS), writing an accidental pregnancy book, preparing a release of a co-written project with Ruthie Knox (and co-writing another), and getting ready to launch a larger vision project at the Romantic Times Convention.

Author Info:

While training for her day job as a nurse practitioner, she rediscovered romance on the bedside tables of her favorite patients. Now she writes smart and emotional contemporary romance, imagining stories featuring the heroes and heroines just ahead of her in the coffee line. Mary Ann Rivers lives in the Midwest with her handsome professor husband and their imaginative school-aged son.
